GB Energy schools solar stream

Great British Energy, the publicly-owned energy company, funds rooftop solar PV for schools directly [GB Energy]. This pulls solar PV out of the PSDS bundle for most state schools.

Funding model

GB Energy installs and operates rooftop PV on identified schools. Public-sector ownership; not a grant the school applies for in the PSDS sense.

Scope

State schools identified by DfE in the rollout cohort. Allocation is centrally decided.

vs PSDS solar PV

For solar-only schemes on identified state schools, GB Energy is now the route. PSDS still makes sense when solar is part of a wider heat-pump and fabric bundle scoring well on GCC.

First installs

Cohort rollout in progress. Bursars should check GB Energy and DfE communications for their school's status.
